Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening- a quick, affordable and effective way to put the shine back to your smile!

Teeth can become stained or darkened over a period due to several factors such as age, smoking, or drinking tea, coffee and red wine. Calculus or tartar can also affect the colour of your teeth. Some people may have staining under the surface, which can be caused by certain antibiotics or by tiny cracks in the teeth which take up stains. Our dental clinic offers Take Home Teeth Whitening treatment to help brighten your smile.

Benefits of Take Home Teeth Whitening treatment:

- Big part of the treatment is carried out at home
- You need to wear trays up to two hours per day
- Whiter, brighter teeth in 10 days
- Can improve your confidence
- Can greatly improve the appearance of your smile

Teeth whitening can be highly effective at enhancing your appearance, which is why it has become so widely used. Teeth whitening is so popular with both men and women of all ages who are looking to achieve a fresh smile through a short and non- invasive (it lightens the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface) procedure. Our dentists will be able to tell you if you are suitable for the treatment, and we will supervise it if you are.

Procedure

After an initial consultation with one of our dentists in which they’ll walk you through the treatment’s few, simple steps, you’ll be able to use a set of made-to-measure trays and a whitening agent. For optimum results, this will ensure that you get a very even and thorough coverage of gel on your teeth whilst wearing your trays. Finally, dentist will show you how to use your new whitening trays and gels at home as well as provide you with ‘instructions for use and aftercare’ to take away. As a guideline, we advise that it usually takes up to 7 to 10 days to see any noticeable effects of treatment and the level of whiteness you achieve will depend on your diet and the porosity of your teeth.

The process uses a safe bleach solution, hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. As the active ingredient is broken down, oxygen gets into the enamel on the teeth and the tooth colour is made lighter, that helps to return your teeth to their original colour, removing stains and discolouration.
This is a safe method for whitening your teeth, because of the dental-approved chemicals used. General Dental Council (GDC) has advised that teeth whitening treatment should only be carried out by a registered dental professional, which is exactly what we are.

Result and aftercare

Some people may find that their teeth become sensitive to cold during or after the treatment. Others may have discomfort in the gums, a sore throat or white patches on the gum line. These symptoms are usually temporary and should disappear within a few days of the treatment finishing.

The effects of whitening are thought to last up to three years. However, this will vary from person to person. The effect is less likely to last as long if you smoke, or eat or drink products that can stain your teeth. Tea, coffee, red wine, tobacco and spicy foods can all dull your teeth’s natural colour. To maintain the impact of the treatment it is advisable to brush your teeth more frequently.

! Bear in mind: Tooth whitening can only lighten your existing tooth colour. It only works on natural teeth and will not work on any types of ‘false' teeth such as dentures, crowns and veneers.
